Clare O'Connor

Biography

Clare O’Connor is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Ireland. She holds a BA in Visual Arts Practice and a BDes in Design Communications from IADT, Dublin (2001, 2009). Her international experience includes living and working in Berlin and Venice, where she worked as an assistant to artists Thomas Kilpper and Anselm Reyle, as well as contributing to various projects at the Venice Biennale.

Clare has exhibited widely across Ireland, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, and China. Notable recognitions include her selection for Imago Mundi Ireland (Luciano Benetton Collection, 2016), participation in Straight Out of Ireland exhibitions in Philadelphia (2019, 2022), and the 2024 John Richardson French Residency Award with Hambly & Hambly. Her work is held in the Meath County Council collection, and she has received support from the Arts Council and Meath Arts Office.

An abstract painter, Clare launched her wearable art brand in 2018, translating her vibrant visual language into textile design. Her practice explores intuitive mark-making, bold colour, layered patterns, and energetic forms. Her ongoing series, Navigating the Labyrinth, began during her time in Venice and reflects her interest in the labyrinth as a symbol of the subconscious and the energetic patterns of everyday life.

Through her work, Clare aims to create uplifting, empowering experiences that communicate the unseen and celebrate the complexity of human perception.
