Biography

Diana was born and grew up in London, England.

On leaving school she attended Southgate and Barnet College for three years where she studied Dress Design. After leaving college she became a designer–pattern cutter for a children’s wears company working for them for several years.

Subsequently she spent a period traveling Europe, settling in Germany for a good many years before moving on to Southern Spain. It was here that she began to paint, starting with water colours, then acrylics and finally finding oil colours through taking classes with well-known British artist Noel Gregory. She now paints mainly in oils finding a versatility and depth of colour not found with any other medium. She has since moved home yet again to live in County Galway, in the West of Ireland. She paints and exhibits throughout Ireland.

I love everything about the process of creating a painting, from the original idea, to the set up or scene captured, to the actual drawing and painting of the piece, that is what drives me to my studio to paint every day. My goal is to perfect and hone my skills and to enjoy the process which enriches my life..

For my still life’s I am always looking for new and different set-ups, lighting effects, interesting and sometimes unusual objects to depict. I also like to paint in series, which are similar in theme or format.

I am thrilled by the hunt for interesting objects to paint and can be found often at auctions and charity shops hunting for treasures.

I also love to let loose with the palette knife to create more impressionistic and textured work, branching out into some abstract work too. Although my main body of work has been focused on traditional still life’s recently, I also love to paint other subjects such as landscapes and seascapes, and also painted an equine series for the Dublin Horse Show.
